OC: Kouki (塙麒). Taiho of Kou

So far, more or less what I've decided on this character. See last entry for crossover idea.

Born in Mount Hou, Kouki was a late-bloomer Kirin, opposite to Enki (youngest looking), even if he was still looking for his ruler, he never could stop aging until his reached his 30s. Like all Kirins, he'll be tall, blue eyed (more of a violet-like shade than warm blue or steel blue shade), with a darker complexion (as Kyouki), chiseled features, and blond hair of the shade of Renrin's. He dons the Kou Taiho robes (like Kourin but male ones. Take note on Kou-Ou's outfit, Integra will wear a more feminine version of that once enthroned). That bracelet thingie/Kou regalia to bind youma/other creatures (without being shirei) is the nation treasure (incredibly proper for Hellsing, ja?). His appearance is sunken and haunted with concern about the worsening of his people and self-guilt of being unable to find Integra earlier.

He carries this as stigma which makes him unusually blind at Kou people's faults and rather blaming himself for this mess, apologetic by nature. He will be exceptional docile and obedient for this reason, fretting over displeasing his master. However, by consequence, he would be overprotective and steadfast loyal, judging Alucard as a bad influence. Despite Kirin's merciful nature, Alucard's not quite a creature that should exist and his presence would sicken Kouki further (Kirin have phobia to blood and violence). Despite of his meekness around Integra (whom Alucard aside will see has no faults and all mistakes would be either his blame for not finding her earlier or Alucard's), he's a very proud overachiever and has a snarky streak which will show more and more once the problems of Kou will begin to solve, making him more useful by gaining more of a backbone to speak up and advice his Queen correctly.

His Nyokai

(for those who ignore what that is: The Nyokai live to serve the kirin as their guardians and act as their mothers while they are still fledglings, once they reach maturity, they act as the other shirei -bound beasts-

His shirei: Youma (demons) bound to serve the kirin in exchange of feasting on his remains after his death.

Inen (維捻): a chouyuu (a monkey youma with long arms).
Batsushu (伐種): a gouyu (a boar like youma).
Hisei (飛凄): a kochou (a Huge-sized crow like youma).
Tenhu (唸怖): a kyuuki (a flying tiger, a fierce man-eating youma Integra will order him to bind in the story).

Btw, Twelve Kingdoms names are based on on-yomi reading of Kanji.

Hellsing/Twelve Kingdoms crossover idea

I'll need a lot of re-reading because Twelve Kingdoms canon is overwhelmingly complex, but I want to write this, following the structure of Ono's novel style (except shorter duh). I'm going to call it: The Gate of the Moon, The Red Sea at Dusk. The first part would be divided in two sections, one taking place in Hourai (Japan), Wa (China) and England, then the second in the kingdom of Kou and the Kingdom of Hou. The main characters would be Integra Hellsing (52 years), Alucard and Kouki (OC), secondary Seras Victoria, Sir Penwood, Sir Islands, Sir Walsh, Pip Bernadotte.

The other would take place in Kou and Kei. Main characters would be Integra, Kouki, Alucard, Youko, Rakushun, Keiki, the Chousai of Kou (name... still pending. OC). The secondaries would be Kantai, Enki, En-Ou, Shoukei, Suzu, Enho, misc Kei people and a buttload of OCs via Kou. Former Prince and Princess too (good guys).

Main pairings would be Integra/Alucard, Youko/Rakushun. Background wise there's Pip/Seras and Shoukei/Kantai. The focus wouldn't be romance, but political intrigue, character development and drama. However, those would be the couples present because they are the logical ones.

Kirins live up 37 years if they don't find their rulers, right? I'm assuming Shadow of the Moon took place in 1992. Kouki finally came to be at the end of 1993 (we never hear a whisper of ANY new ruler or Kirin in A Shore at Twilight either). So by 2030, he'll be 37 years.

The opening/prologue will be a narrative of Arthur's and Integra's mother's (which will be a relative of Islands) second honeymoon voyage at the Far East in 1978 (they traveled to all countries safe to travel). There is a minor tempest hitting the place they are staying (China or Japan, I haven't decided. I'll look up which one would be safer). When they return to England, she's finally pregnant, months after in 1979, Integra's born. Her mom dies a few months or a year later. There were all sort of rumors she couldn't be Arthur's daughter, began by Richard, because Arthur has fertility issues. The darkness of her skin is also suspicious, but Arthur adores Integra and thinks her eyes and hair should be obvious enough as mark of his daughter.

Cut to Alucard and Integra, taking a vacation and "honeymoon" finally after 40 years, she has officially retired early, concluding the training of the knights a few months before this. Sir Penwood and half of the RT are already beginning their functions. At a point of their journey, they were dinning outside in Kyoto when a strange man approaches Integra. He's in his 30s ethereally beautiful, Asian with violet eyes and natural blond hair, immediately lets go a yelp of recognition and prostrates before her, Alucard reacts first, grabbing this man (a potential threat). The man is a Kirin, Kouki, and as you can guess the presence of someone so deeply scented on blood as Alucard causes him (what do you think he was dinning? ;P) to be sick and faint.

Meanwhile, Seras and co deal with the changes on England.

The story will focus about Kouki, Integra and Alucard, Integra's discovery she's the chosen new monarch of the Kingdom of Kou and how long will it take her to adjust to the idea of different religion (still one "God" creator), different world, new responsibility. Also if she accepts, the possibility to leave everyone behind, even Alucard. Shoku/tempest is something he'll survive, but the passage through the sea? Then there's going to be a separation. Integral will travel first, in Japan, and be washed ashore in Kou. Where a loyal general and minister awaits for her (see Kou, has something AGAINST "visitors" of other world thanks to the former Kou-Ou and now their new ruler IS one of them). Her arrival is kept a secret. Then Alucard and Kouki will meet in Wa (China) and the shoku will be done through the mountains. Sadly due to Alucard's scent of blood, Kouki faints and both are separated, so Alucard is lost in the Kingdom of Hou (a kingdom that has suffered the consequences of a former ruler who was too harsh in punishments for an obsession with purity) to begin his self-discovery journey while NOT knowing the language at all while Integra, Kouki and their few supporters travel to find him again.

And of course, Seras and Pip reaction to the news they'll be left behind. And how the RT adjusts when they lose Integra for good.

The narrative epilogue would be about the situation of the Round Table and Seras and Pip taking the mantle (Alucard and Integra will be reunited).

Integra's appearance in the Twelve Kingdoms will be different from canon, all of them are Asian (with special coloring), so she would have those traits. Her appearance is a "shell" Taika don by Heaven trying to make them fit in their birth parents in Earth. Still 52 years, she would look a lot more youthful due to her ethnicity, her eyes and skin and voice would remain the same, her hair however would change to silver instead of blonde (similar to Tai-Ou). Why? Because the ONLY blonde people in 12K are Kirins. Still the same old Tegra, just making this realistic for both canon.

The second part of the story (The Red Sea at Dusk) will deal a forbidden conflict between Kou and Kei. The throne of Kou has remained empty for over 30 years, the Kirin (as far they know) couldn't find a ruler, in middle of disasters, the Chousai (who shared and supported old Kou-Ou on his Youko's chase) manipulates the great section of a prejudiced Court to begin a FORBIDDEN invasion into Kei. As nobody is a ruler or kirin, they (dunno the gender yet, IMO woman) would use Kei's newfound and shy prosperity in contrast of their decline. The Chousai has a secret, she/he IS a kaikyaku/or/Taika themselves, and has a past of imperial dreams brought by Hourai-Wan systems. After Kei's conquered, they'll move to En with BOTH armies.

In Kei, the agitated climate of their borders is brought to Youko's attention. Rakushun (now her lover, graduated from En College and a minister in her Court) had lost his mother recently and has gone to bury her (thusly he's in Kou), worried about him and the news he brings forth to her and the overwhelming number of refugees incoming suddenly that are damaging Kei's recovering economy (actually soldiers-sympathizers of the movement anti Kei in disguise sent by Kou Chousai). She sets to investigate herself dividing court duties between her handmaidens Suzu and Shoukei. A ruler CANNOT send troops into another country but as the situation worsens, Youko goes incognito against Keiki's protests. Rakushun has taken shelter with the former Prince and Princess of Kou who are horrified with the secret schemes against Kei and En. Kouki is teaching Integra more of 12K politics before she presents herself, in fact, she has to receive Heaven's Mandate formally yet, and there are doubts of Alucard's good influence around her or not.

Further in this plot, a few accidental encounters with Youko and Rakushun with Integra and Alucard, both incognito, establish a tentative friendship, they discuss the situation in Kou and all. Kouki's with Alucard's help slowly tries to win the support of the Court for their "master." Some of the ministers convince Alucard that Kei is trying to invade Kou taking advantage of his ignorance about the inner workings of the kingdoms.

The story will end at the shore limits of the red sea during dusk with the formal revelation of Integra as Kou-Ou, ordering her troops to retreat, unmasking the Chousai's ambition and origin (she was washed ashore in En. Enki comes with documentation when En Ou is looking up this ploy), Alucard's usefulness and balancing Kouki's merciful stance (both good for Integra) are proved here to intimidate and appeal those who question Taika until she can gather enough political support. However, due to the false rumors she had heard, Integra is going to confront Kei-Ou if she's going to attack Kou armies or not, willing to fight and discovering that Empress Sekishi it's that girl Youko (or rather Youshi as she always uses during her journeys), making a pact of friendship between the kingdoms, etc. There would be closing chapters with conversations between our Taika rulers (Shouryuu, Youko & Integra) and their friendship.

Plus epilogue to say Integra received Heaven's Mandate in one year, the year of her reign which has yet to be named (do we have former Kou's reign name? I don't think so). Also, I need to decide Integra's azana, likely "steel woman" (鋼女: Koujo) but this is more or less the plot. There will be a role for everyone. Opinions?

Cut Down: All her vampire/Methuselah abilities (haste, regeneration, agility, strength) would be properly halved. This means that Shahrazad instead of being ten times as strong as a human being, she would be five times as strong, ditto with her other physical prowess.

Personality: In her canon, the race of Methuselah (vampires) of the Empire are often portrayed as arrogant and boasting about their superiority over Terrans (humans), this is all Shahrazad stands against. That’s why her surname “al-Rahman” means “The Merciful” or “the Benevolent” and she lives it up to a fault. Since she was a child, Shahrazad had the unique experience to be raised in cities full of Terrans growing to see them as her friends, family and, therefore, equals. In her own words: “That’s why I truly love the Terrans. That’s probably why I still love the sun.” Her acceptance is so much she would have preferred to be born a Terran to enjoy the glorious, bright sunshine like they do.

A trail of thinking that does not fit the profile of the Imperial Nobility; she has a strong sense of identity to keep her beliefs against all the odds of the Court and isn’t bothered by the narrowed views shared by others.

Saying all this, it should be expected this girl is very friendly, kind and fiercely protective of those weaker than her. A gentle soul, Shahrazad showers people who surround her not only with emotional support, but also with physical displays of open affection; she doesn’t shy from caressing, embracing or any other act of adoration. She’s very straightforward with her words, feelings and choices.

However, Shahrzad’s compassion and good-hearted nature has brought her a great deal of heartache. While she is no fool, the Countess has the penchant to be gullible and believe in the best of people and this could blind her to their capacity for evil; or those who are evil, the scope of their intentions. Furthermore, although her loyalty is, first and foremost, with her adopted Terran family (or Süleyman), she’s unable to harm an innocent being even if their lives are at stake. She is an idealistic who can’t choose or prioritize the importance of life because is so precious to her. There is just one limit to her love where hatred can be born: the very same Terran family (and Esther in their absence or anybody Shahrazad begins to love as kin); if somebody hurts them or anybody who is under her personal protection, even “The Merciful” would find that action an unforgivable sin for her to avenge. That is the one thing that would take for her to willingly agree to take a life without regrets and feel complete spite.

Sample RP Post: When she awoke, there was sunlight creeping into the room. The dark winter night had already ended.

The remnants of the battle with the Inquisitor Petros were gone when Shahrazad stirred. There were neither bruises nor traces of violence on her dark skin, just the grime and the sweat. Mauve eyes widened and sat straight on the mattress, heart pounding, breathing labored. Her fingertips were tracing her face in disbelief. Last night…

“Esther!” she exclaimed before she assessed the damage. Had they been captured by the Inquisition or the Archbishop’s forces? If so, why had been she allowed to live? She reined her emotions, the flashes of her loyal servant who counted on her and had been at her service for decades floored in her mind. She was the Countess of Babylon, and would give her life for those she had sworn to protect. After her uncle’s death and being framed as traitor to the Empire…

There was a noise of light breathing and a female voice, Shahrazad turned her head to spot reddish-brown hair sneaking out a blanket. Tattered clothes lay discarded aside the bed. Her concern melted into a soft, pleased smile. She let go a sigh of pure bliss and relief after recognizing their hotel room, the safe haven Esther had procured them.

She stretched her arm and rose, looking for her clothes to change. Throwing off the dirty Terran outfit, she donned her noble clothes. There was no need to facades in their privacy. They must be looking for us. Esther will suffer the consequences from standing up for me. I can’t let anything happen to her, she mused as she placed her gloves up.

The day was nearly over, Shahrazad noted, the sky was darkening. At least here, she could enjoy the beauty of the sunset without a darkening shield that stops the glorious sight. She was an oddity among the Children of the Eternal Night Kingdom; she loved the sun more than she loved the moon, even if it was a deadly foe of their kind. The gold rays to the silver beams. Would I think the same if I were born Terran?

“Wherever we are Terran or Methuselah, we are all human beings.”

The sound of her uncle’s voice echoed in her mind. She couldn’t understand how that great man would dare to assassinate the Empress as they claimed he did. She just couldn’t understand his reasons as her fellow nobles wouldn’t understand that, regardless what he did, Shahrazad still loved him as her own father.

“I remember, uncle Süleyman. I always remember.”

She turned to Esther again, somber spirit lifting. This was the petite, Terran Sister whom she could not bring herself to slay, even if was for the sake of her men. This was the sole ally who stood by her all this time that was now in a deadly peril, even from her Vatican. Oh, how the Countess knew this girl carried such a heavy burden on her young shoulders and felt bad for making her the pillar of her own pain. She approached the sleeping redhead and pressed her lips to her temple, brushing a wild, crimson strand from Sleeping Beauty’s pale forehead.

Nothing’s going to hurt you. Sleep well. Shahrazad moved to sit under the window when most of the sunlight had vanished. Her wide eyes, filled with wonder, took on the sun setting in István. The fading golden rays of the day were so glorious she couldn’t look away. They reminded her to the determination she had seen in those closed blue eyes – they captivated her as much as the sunshine did. That was why she could not bring herself to hurt this girl.

Even if I’m alone in this world, as long I am at your side... She had to keep herself strong, for the ones who were waiting to be saved and for the one who chose to be her ally. Shahrazad smiled sadly, thinking how selfish she was to enjoy herself while her family was suffering. But she had no regrets. Whatever happened to her, she was sincerely glad to have met Sister Esther.

Don't get me wrong, I still head-desk about Walter's lack of consistent personality, but I loved his death scene. Heinkel DID kill him. He was agonizing, he just wanted to kill Doc first. His death and last words were great. I'm happy Integra's NOT there to see this. She had enough with Alucard's farewell words.

Trinity Blood Act 38

A.W.E.S.O.M.E chapter.

For the first time in a while, I LIKED MangaEsther. It seemed her personality here wasn't touched from her Novel self, you see a pissed off, self-reliant, pro-active woman (the Abel clinging is OVER). And Shahr... wow Shahr. She's the cutest thing ever, so sweet and badass, but also vulnerable. You can see she's a little shaken by her men's "losses" and still holding herself. Caterina has another nice part here. I love her reaction, she's very realistic character. ROM IV is a very female-centered arc even if the villain is a male. That's refreshing after so much Abel-centered d0rama.

Rin and I finished the translation. He'll set everything when he returns.

So plot points:

- Walter WANTS to kill Alucard by himself and doesn't want Major's scheme. Not by luck! He screams, trying to cleave Alucard on half too.

- Major lols and explains Walter he has NO chance to win. At all. That everyone who died were sacrifices to kill ONE foe, Alucard, and this is one chance in a lifetime to defeat him. There were two chances after 1898 (Anderson's and Major's?). He mocks Walter telling he surely has guessed by now that the lives of about a million and two millions and within him now and a nobody like he has turned to be as no chance against this.

- Doc has a cameo earlier, nothing important, he's Major's chorus. Integral's present as witness of the exchange. No lines.

- Alucard mocks Walter saying if Anderson couldn't beat him a "piece of shit brat" like him has no chance in 50 or 500 years.

- Then there's AGAIN that voice: You lose, Alucard. From the blood? Apparently, it wasn't Walter's voice in the past since he's like "NOOOES I WANNA BEAT HIM, MAJOR, PLLLLLZ!" in this one.

- Major's "Victory" singsong at the end is the BEST of the chapter. Sad to say.

This chapter basically can be dubbed "Bash Walter" instead of Black Onyx because nothing else happens besides everyone telling how much Walter sucks. Twelve pages of that. Pretty weak to stretch the plot like this. ._.

Shahrzad al-Rahman

Shahrzad and Esther Blanchett, Reborn on Mars IV, "Imitation Star".

Name origin: Shahrzad comes from the famous storyteller Scheherazade, al-Rahman means "the Benevolent" or "the Most Merciful."
Age: Around Astaroth Aslan's generation - 100-200 years old.
Stationed quarters: Timişoara, second largest city of the Empire.

Shahrzad al-Rahman is the Countess of Babylon from Ţara Methuseluth; she is a Methuselah noble with dark skin, mauve eyes, and black, curly hair with the appearance of a "young girl", about 16 to 20 years old, very beautiful and beloved by all her servants. Unlike most of her kind, she has no hatred or resentment against the Terran or the Outer. Her personality is sweet, cheerful, kind, honor-bound and somewhat naïve; she's not a snobby headcase like most of the Imperials are. Unfortunately, as the niece of the traitor to their country who played a major role in the prior novel, Duke Süleyman of Tigris, Shahrzad herself had no idea what exactly Süleyman was doing, but was used by him for his plans, and so, after his death, had to run for her life.

At the beginning of "Imitation Star", she had fled the Empire and reached the Outer World, accompanied by five servants who were faithful to her and would rather die alongside her than serve a new master. However, they were caught by Emmanuele D'Annunzio, the new Bishop of István. D'Annunzio wants to start a war with the Empire, and for this purpose, he'll use a plan involving Shahrzad, who is supposed to publicly kill Esther in exchange for her servants' lives in the middle of the stage where the girl plays the role of a Holy Woman. As benevolent the Countess is, Shahrzad attacks but she cannot bring herself to kill Esther, and instead just abducts her to bargain for her men's lives. Both women cooperate in the hunt for their lives from all sides: the Bishop's, the Ax's, and the Inquisition's and Esther's own former troops.

At the end of a series of persecutions (Esther is first seen as victim then she was almost branded as traitor), both women discover the location of Shahrzad's servants but they were too late for everyone had been tortured to death. The Countess tells Esther that she has never hated Terrans before, but now she loathes them with all her soul before charging against D'Annunzio (who is holding the Pope and Caterina at gunpoint close by) but she is shot by his guards with UV-light and silver bullets. The Inquisition and the Ax arrive to save Esther and the siblings. Shahrzad knows that she is bound to die, whether she is captured or not, but she doesn't want to die all in vain and decides to try and help Esther gain the reputation for killing her, as a way to thank her for helping her. Hence, she charges at Alessandro and holds him hostage, and tells Esther to kill her, so that she would really gain the title of a Holy Lady or Lady Saint, because with such a recognition, it would be easier to change things for the better. She hands Esther a gun, and presses her hand close, pulling the trigger and killing herself while letting Esther take the reputation for killing her. Esther is given the rank of saint and buries Shahrzad next to the late Marquis of Hungary, Gyula Kádar, swearing to honor the title unfairly given to her.

Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing and Alucard (or should I say, Count Dracula) are (alongside the police girl turned to newbie vampire, Seras Victoria) the main characters of the Anime/Manga, Hellsing. She’s the human leader of the Organisation and a knight of the Royal Protestant Order and he’s the ace under her command and mastership. Together they fight the forces of the night to protect the United Kingdom. Alucard and Integra have an intriguing and complex dynamics of master/servant with unresolved sexual tension, obvious admiration and respect for each others with degree of strong symbiosis that draws many, making them the most popular pairing in the fandom. This is a tribute to one of my favorite couples of the series (after Pip/Seras).

The King: Human!Dracula's song. As showed in his flashback, he had a dream of building God's Jerusalem in earth and wanted to bring Him down to live among the people. A seasoned, bitter warrior who died unfulfilled against his Father's indifference.

No Life King: Alucard's a compelling character because with all his power, he's a loser, he owns nothing, not even his own will. He plays ruler still sat on his "throne" in the basement, but he's just a broken soul who is grasping old glories and unable to find peace: his castles are long gone. He is no longer a king, no longer a man of God, no longer a man and he suffers for this. He regrets his mistake. This is mostly Manga Alucard.

Young Master: Integra was born to be the shield and sword of the United Kingdom against supernatural forces and enemies of its Church. She was raised and inhereted this title when her father passed away. She was only a twelve years old girl (thirteen, in the Anime/Tv series) who kissed her childhood good-bye to enter into a harsh adulthood, starting with her uncle's murder. She carries the weight to be a knight, the leader of Hellsing and Alucard's Master. Far from escaping this fate (as most "chosen ones" do), she embraces this with pride and dignity.

Master: Integra grows and blooms into a beautiful, fiesty but very lonely woman. She is the Iron Maiden, the tower few can enter. She watches everything under her (sometimes) stoic mask, trying to convince her acts and orders were justified. This is hard when she loses her men or she has to command the deaths of humans (volume 4) and loved ones (Walter in volume 9).

Not an Ingenue: A song to portray young Integra's struggle for the mastership of Alucard. She challenged him in her fear, not backing down his advances and wining his respect and admiration. Their relationship start with powergames and continue with it.

Not a Guardian Angel: In the Anime, it's very obvious Alucard became fixated on Integra since their meeting, her eyes, in particular, he turned Seras Victoria into a vampire because her eyes reminded him to hers (according to the interview with Gonzo in Newtype). This is a companion with the other song. She endured despite everything and displayed her courage against him. This shows the rots of Alucard's advances, the start of their twisted relationship filled with games to alleviate his boredom. He's an old, proud and powerful vampire who became impressed by this young, human girl.

7. Holding up for a Hero by Frou Frou (Lyrics)

The Damsel in Distress: Departure from the intense, creepy tv series first meeting; in the Manga, the meeting between Alucard and Integra is far more cordial and archetypically romantic. Integra wishes for a knight in shining armor to save her from her greedy uncle while curling next to the corpse she found in the basement. Little she knew the corpse will rise to protect her and answer her prayers.

The Knight in Shining Armor: Unlike Anime Alucard, Manga Alucard is an avid protector and lover of humanity (humans not dogs), he's devoted to Integra without tests or trials, he's her guardian and protector, he's there to watch over her dreams (not always mean literal, but goals) while she guides him through this path he cannot walk alone any longer. He beheld how the little girl killed her own uncle and became a woman, his Master. So it began.

Ten Years Ago: Their journey begins... Integra (in both accounts) is fearless about Alucard, this is important in their relationship, her lack of fear and what I tried to exalted in this song and this fanmix: She's not afraid of darkness, she fights against its forces and lives with it everyday. In a way, her relationship with Alucard is exactly the opposite to Seras', who to date in the Manga, looks afraid of Alucard.

His influence: While this mean to be by both canons, and the issue of Alucard as drug for his Masters is brought in the Manga, I will place the lyrics more fitting for the tv series. Alucard is always invading her space, prying with questions she shouldn’t ask, tempting her. She knows he’s harmful but always relies on him.

11. Poison by Alice Cooper (Lyrics)

Her influence: Likewise, I think this fit more in the tv series canon. There is this building tension, between both of them, always at the edge of the knife, but he won’t touch her, he offers, tempts, argues, but never touches. Her blood is the sweetest thing he has tasted and runs through his veins giving his slumbering corpse life in the first place. He may yank the chain but will never break them, he’s terrified at the idea of losing his Master to death.

12. Mine by Savage Garden (Lyrics)

Possessiveness: In all honestly, this song also fits Manga Alucard (who calls Integra his beloved Master and only his recently), but I placed it here to give some sense of identity to each bit. Alucard has always wanted Integra, this particular scene, I believe fits when he offers her his blood in episode 11, he was straightforward, bared in both concern and offering, while she changed subjects and walked away without giving him an answer.

14. The Hand that Feeds by Nine Inch Nails (Lyrics)

Rebellious Streak: Alucard is no tame puppy and, in episode 8, he gives a taste to his Master about what a target may feel. This is to portray their struggle with themselves and Integra’s to her fellow knights. After all, her loyalty may not last forever if everything they do (unlike the manga) is to betray her.

Temptation: Abandoned by her Church, her Queen, her allies with her organization destroyed and framed by crimes that weren’t hers, Integra spends time in jail still recovering from a deadly injury in her neck. Alucard arrives, breaks the glass of wine, cuts his own hand and asks her orders. And her choice.

15. The one I Love by The Rasmus (Lyrics)

The Choice: Integra’s answer is never uttered. Alucard smirks, so does she. Blood drips in a pool and fades to black. I’m giving an educated guess of what would have happened, a repeat from their meeting, only in reverse.

Savior and Downfall: This is the song that best portrays their interaction in the Manga. Both characters represent their failures and salvations. Integra’s a human, using a dangerous, addictive monster as Alucard could bring her downfall but he helps her time and time again. Alucard’s a vampire, serving the descendant of the one who defeated him is a sign of downfall, but her will and orders keep him from falling further into his senseless cycle.

17. Harbor by Vienna Teng (Lyrics)

Anchor: Alucard journeys to many places, even away from the country, but he always returns readily to his Master’s side and, when they met, she’s always smiling for him and he always goes right to meet her first. She’s the anchor he has, the symbol of home he has to return. She knows it. Those little details that make a relationship complex.

18. Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin (Lyrics)

Soldier: Alucard kills. He’s a monster. He’s her dog, her weapon. She can dream, but his dreams are long gone. He is fighting forever, for her or for the fight itself. This song is to portray Alucard’s role in Hellsing.

Pitiful Fate: Alucard’s fate is destroy everything he loves in the fires of war and, in Hellsing, he has been leading Integra around, unconsciously, to ignite another war by baiting her to order conflicts in volume 3 and forward, feeding in her strength of will to combat. He’s aware of this pathetic life he has to live and wants Anderson to kill him, placing an end to his senseless pain. Presumably, in my honest opinion, to put an end to the conflict before his thirst for battle destroys Integra (and Seras).

20. Loneliness by Annie Lennox (Lyrics)

Understanding: Obviously, his plans fails and Anderson becomes a monster, forcing Alucard to kill him. He’s very impressed upon this and recalls his lost humanity, lamenting what happened, breaking down in the battlefield. Quietly, Integra watches and reflects what her father said about how miserable vampires were, she isn’t shocked by Alucard’s pain unlike the other witnesses, she’s sad. She understands what he’s enduring in her unspoken way. She offers no comfort, Anderson is doing the talking, instead (silent and gloomy) gives a tribute to both fallen warriors of God: she's exactly like them before their determination faltered and knows.

21. She Will Have Her Way by Neil Finn (Lyrics)

I might be old but I'm someone new she said
I'm so sore that I could cry always
In the night lay your tired arms
She will have her way
Somehow I will still believe her

Trust: After Anderson dies and Walter appears, Integra issues orders to kill her traitorous butler and Major calls her forth the Zeppelin. They almost at the same time assume what the other will do. Integra’s going to end this war, Alucard encourages her, assuring he’ll deal with Walter, she has trust in his word and is half the way when he proposes it. A good team who communicates with words and actions.

"Vampire. Dracula. Nosferatu. No Life King. Count. That man has lived on many moons, devouring an even larger number of people's desires. There is nothing left for him anymore: a castle, a kingdom, or people to inhabit such... or his beloved's heart. Not even his own heart. Human vs Monster: In the potential scenario Alucard goes insane by Major’s poisoning plan (and isn’t just going to disappear), this song fits Integra having to fight her servant for their sakes, for him to reach peace and to save the world she has to protect. Only a human will kill him, he won’t allow anyone who isn’t human have the honor of defeating him.

23. Forgiven by Within Temptation (Lyrics)

His Peace: Integra upon the possible (and at the moment the most likely, I say) outcome: Alucard’s death, his soul finally reaching the peace he wants. He’s forgiven for his shortcomings and given peace.

Imprisonment: A walk in the head of crazy!Alucard in a less likely outcome in which Integra’s forced to lock him in the basement after he proves to be too dangerous under the effects of the poison. Delirious, alone, filled with regrets, he calls for Integra in his cell.

Tragedy: Probably the least likely of the outcomes, Integra’s death in battlefield, and well, the end of the “world” or England. Her presence alive is what stops Sir Islands from nuking the hell out London and move to Canada. And the hand that leashes Alucard from his destructive urges. These would be Alucard’s thoughts in the Hellsing Organisation, while bombs fall. Doubt even a vampire can survive a nuke. ~~Pretty much, Integra dies: rocks fall, everyone dies.~~

In Memoriam: Another likely outcome. They all survive: Integra ages, marries, dies but leaves a legacy. One day Alucard reflects upon his first female Master and his unspoken feelings.

Courtly Love: Likely outcome. Alucard’s saved and continues to serve as Integra’s weapon and knight, their relationship continues as strong as ever despite the many regrets they both have.

Happy Ending: Very unlikely, but the outcome Alucard and Integra do get together (and Alucard survives). This song fits for Manga Alucard’s love and admiration for humanity, he doesn’t care about forever, he finds vampires, monsters and those creatures, inferior, aging, the fickleness of mortality is highly praised by him. He’ll love her… human.

Fulfillment: This goes to all the good Alucard/Integra fics in which there is a happy ending for the couple. A touch more sappy than the canon interaction songs because fic, and fanon, is for wistful thinking. Vampire Hunter D crossovers, specially. Any story with a happy outcome (to balance the angst and darkness in the overall mix). It’s also dedicate to Mish, who plays Alucard, in polychromatic to my Integra and there, after over a year of interaction and intense development, have come together, “engaged.” ~~Obviously, Integra tops.~~ Thing song has something particular sanity and romance but a macabre air in the lyrics that fit to a merrier side of the couple.

[Human Remains: A Seras Victoria FST]

For those who don't know, Seras Victoria is the young police officer turned into a newbie vampire who works for the Hellsing Organisation in the series Hellsing. She used to be the comic relief sidekick before becoming a much serious and fascinating character through the story advances. She's one of the lead female characters, the other being Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, the human Master of the vampire who turned Seras, Alucard (aka Dracula).

This is a Seras Victoria fanmix following the Manga alone. There's going to be spoilers up the last chapter of the Manga to date (86, roughly the beginning of would be volume 10, the last of Hellsing). The Child Trouble. When she was young, Seras was witness of her parents' savage murder and survived. That experience traumatized her and made her become a violent, autistic outcast in the orphanage.

The Stubborn Young Lady. Seras grows up and chooses to be a cop like her father at all cost, dismissing any of the other chances and alternative paths. She's rebellious and determinate to have her way.

The Fateful Cheddar Night. One of her missions as a cop take Seras to the village of Cheddar where she meets Alucard for the first time and she's taken hostage by the vampire vicar. Alucard kills the said vampire and mortally wounds her with a shot giving her a choice: die as a human or live as a vampire. She chooses to "live."

The Human Actions: Even as a vampire, Seras pretends to act as if she was still human. She doesn't act like she used to be before (see former songs) but as a newborn, confused little girl who is trying to mimic and cling desperately into her fading humanity. This is an obstacle for her as a soldier of Hellsing.

The Vampire Side. Within Seras, there is the darkness and the fate of all vampires have to suffer. She knows she's changing and isn't the same person anymore, in mind and body, and to complete this change terrifies her. Drinking blood, specially.

The Soldier of Hellsing. Mostly about Seras and her relationship with the Wild Geese mercenaries. They defend the mansion bravely in volume 6 and volume 7, she becomes a sign of hope and savior for them and in turn she is inspired by their sacrifice and Captain Bernadotte's speech to keep on fighting.

The Man I Love: Seras has been grivously wounded and Pip rescued her. During his brave stand, Zorin gives him a deadly blow in the back. After securing Seras, Pip kisses and comforts her pain, ordering her to drink his blood and that way the'll crush them all together. Finally, Seras embraces her vampire's side. Not because of Integra, Alucard or herself, but due to Pip Bernadotte.

The Monster. After losing her ~~true love~~ Captain and an arm, her eyes and a lot of blood, the last straw is when Zorin insults Pip and Seras loses it. She drinks Pip's blood, absorbing his soul and will within herself, finally embracing the potential she is mean to be, striking dread to her (their?) enemies before destroying them.

True Nosferatu: After killing Zorin, Seras finally soars into the night with her own wings of freedom. She is not human anymore, she has forsaken that side, attaching to Pip's will and orders to become a True Nosferatu at last. Anderson, Millennium, Integra and Alucard recognized the change on her.

Maker and Fledgling: This is to picture how Seras helps Alucard in his last battle with Anderson during volume 9. She stops a blow to his heart and resists the fire that is slowly starting to spread to her. Grateful, Alucard awakes and pushes her away. This song is a general despition of their relationship ~~lacking the parts Seras' scared of Alucard because I couldn't find another one ;;~~: as master/servant, marker/childe, father figure/daughter surrogate, comrades, teacher/student and god/follower. After seeing her display of courage, Alucard entrusts his Master to Seras. Not a romantic song here, my apologies to the AxS fans. I am not a fan of the pairing because I like their relationship platonic D:

The Good Women of Hellsing: This is to depict Seras' and Integra's battle inside the Zeppelin and their moments and relationship in general through the series. The first speaks of Seras' protection and humor over the head of Hellsing. She has always reacted when she's in danger, flying or standing up to shield her. The second is Integra, mostly during volume 2 or 8, when Seras' facing her crisis as a vampire; Integra's there to explain and protect her, trying to ease her way into the unlife she has chosen. Both women are suffering of a loss of innocence and a coming of age, they aren't as "alright" as they pretend to be. This isn't mean to be a romantic song either. ~~Despite how I really, really like IntegraxSeras.~~ I tried to be objective and Pip's the only love interest, sorry.

Captain and Soldier: After Integra leaves to face Major on her own, Seras battles with the werewolf, Captain, and is losing. She's about to give up when Pip's soul scolds her and orders her to fight back, snapping her just in time to save her life. Together, they fight once more the monsters and, after a great strategy and team work (Seras' brawl&strength + Pip's brains&willpower = WIN), they win the upperhand against their foe. Pip materializes from her body to stab Captain into his chest with a silver tooth after Seras destroyed his arms and caught his leg.

Trinity Blood. Dietrich's character profile/analysis

Dietrich von Lohengrin

The Marionettenspieler in a nutshell.

Short analysis that helps me to rp him. Most of this have been discussed with herit before, we have similar views on Dietrich.

Name: Dietrich von Lohengrin. Once he used the alias of Dean Butler, Isaak’s “little brother.” Dietrich is a very powerful name, meaning “leader/first among the people” or “power of the tribe.” It’s a name of a leader, of a powerful one. Surely, coming for what seems to be a wealthy family, his father named him right. Lohengrin has a funny reference: a noble/regal surname of a heroic person. The swan knight who rescues and marries a royal heir in need (Elsa = Esther during ROM I?), also Fakir’s (Princess Tutu) reincarnation. XD

Age: Born in 3042 AD, he’s three years older than Esther Blanchett. In polychromatic he's 21 years old.

Birthplace: Somewhere in Germanicus. Edit: As following herit's suggestion, he was born in the city town of Augsburg, famous for the marionette theater.

Physical appearance: Average built (athletic), shorter than most male characters (but taller than the female ones). He has short, brown hair and brown eyes with a face of remarkable beauty. As is described in canon: “face of an angel.” He isn’t feminine in text (unlike Ion), but extremely handsome (super bishounen standing out TB's bishounens), enough for everyone around him turn their heads to stare at him (even Abel Nightroad was slightly er… affected by his good looks). Most cast feels some degree of attraction toward Dietrich due to his appearance.

Species: Terran. Which equals Badass in Sunao world. ~~Methuselah stop being SO LAME.~~

Rank: 8=3 Magister (Templi) of the Order of the Magi, Rosencreutz Orden. This means he’s third ranked at the most dangerous terrorist group in his world (Helga was also a Magister). Has been a higher up since he was ten years old. Landowner and possible noble with royal ancestors (if we consider his surname). In Poly, like the lame Anime booklet says, will be a Duke (of Swabia region to match his birthplace), but he gives his power to Isaak (as former tutor) to be involved in King Ludwig’s Court in Germanicus. Also, he's ranked very high in Germanicus army. Dietrich's a Oberstleutnant, Lieutenant Colonel, in charge of the Seawolf, the fastest submarine of the country, and its crew.

Code Name: Marionettenspieler aka Puppet Master. Guess what he does! :D

Education: Self-taught, Isaak’s student and perhaps some of Cain’s. Dietrich was never given education by his family or attended to school or College.

Physical Strength: Even if he fakes being “weak” sometimes (when he fights alongside with Esther), Dietrich seems to be fast and strong enough before that to hold his ground in missions (and beat Radu once). Is it possible he (or Isaak) has elaborated a serum to use a very minor form of Methuselah acceleration and fortitude? (the Inquisition did), maybe a permanent genetic change occurred. Unless is Sunao’s plothole! As a high ranked military member and one of the best fighters in Esther's resistence when he was posing as her allies, he must be decent in shooting and hand to hand combat at least. Anyway, he's not Radu or Guderian level either, they act as more brute strength.

Weakness: He is, apparently, 100% Terran, this makes him unable to regenerate to date. Also, Dietrich's unable to drink alcohol, he lacks the enzymes to absorb this substance properly. Even a pair of drops of a light brandy makes him warm and drunk (Helga and Melchior spiked lightly his meal during Public Enemy). Exposure to higher doses would be deadly for him.

Intelligence: One of the most natural intelligent characters (or the most) in Trinity Blood but with an intellectual laziness. He was a prodigy since birth, a mad scientist at seven years old and one of the high ranked terrorists at ten. Dietrich’s crazy smart in a Mozart-like level in this way (but not inclined to music but technology), but he has a general apathy, short attention span to everything that doesn’t amuse him (or won’t need to survive) and isn’t very involved in politics or the highest art of psychological warfare. He sees manipulation (another subject he is very good) as a "childish prank."

Abilities: His abilities are born of his genius. He created, among the most important, some “magical” invisible biowires that attach to his victims’ central nervous system and he’s able to not just make them his puppets but also make them experience nervous impulses of pain and pleasure as he wants to; plus he can control the puppet senses: make them see, hear, speak whatever he wants them to. HE CAN FUCK UP WITH YOUR BRAIN, MELT INTO YOUR INSIDES, GUYZ, THREAD (LOL) CAREFULLY. The only known weapon able to sever them was created by his Puppet Master rival, Melchior von Neumman (aka Pygmalion of the RCO), presumably high level of heat (but Radu's flames couldn't do the trick). There are also another type of threads, more visible that cut and slices through objects similar to Walter's from Hellsing. These can be employed by his puppets too (see Radu). Like Isaak, he is told to be a “magic” user (take it as you will) who seems to appear and disappear at will (his entrances/departures are less dramatic than Isaak. But he tends to “poof” too and make his puppets vanish like Radu did in front of Ion). Dietrich knows how to work, create and manipulate the mysterious Lost Technology that his wires are made of. Another of his creations is the RCO footsoldier: Autojäger unit. Using Methuselah bodies, he removes the frontal brain to have a good killing machine easy to control carefully protected by a body armor. He is able to reconstruct bodies with artificial tissues and give them “life” again to be his puppets. This process doesn’t affect the natural abilities either (case point of an Ifrit – Radu) and they are apparently still alive if controlled (Radu did manage to snap into himself for a second to save Ion). Summed with this, Dietrich is a mad hacker: Star of Sorrow, Inquisition’s ships, the Iblis, Isaak’s brain chip, the Arc itself (which was supposedly only under control of the Nanomachines. Even if 01 had him done that, Dietrich took over it). Also, he has had a telepathic conversation with Isaak, it's unclear is they employ those mind-devices created by Bailey (like the Thinkerbell system) or wtf how did he do that? Likely he’ll do more inventions if he cared or if he’s ordered to.

Brief background (canon & own speculation): Born into a village of Germanicus as the son of the landowner, Dietrich was blessed with uncanny brains and beauty… but shunned by everyone including his family who saw him as a monster. At the age of six, he show an inclination for evil and his father and relatives tried to kill him… in return Dietrich murdered his own family. Alcohol poisoning attempt, maybe? Like spiking his juice (I can't picture Daddy Lohengrin trying to stab Dietrich or shoot him. Like ALL good nobles, he'll use a "harmless" substance knowing Diet has no enzymes to absorb alcohol and will lead to his death).

(During his infant years, I picture Dietrich given a lot of dolls or marionettes. He had lack of human contact, so his conversations and relationships were understood through speaking and moving the puppets).

Shortly after that, Dietrich seized his father’s title and started to subject the townspeople to unspeakable experiments that lead to mutilation and death. A year from then, Cain and Isaak were ~~in honeymoon~~ visiting his town. Dietrich met Cain and was flashed on how someone more powerful than he was existed. Someone above the nominations of good and evil. He followed Cain since then.

Isaak was his tutor and I imagine he learned a lot from Cain as well (he had Isaak settled in the Court of Germanicus because he’s the best co-artist). The three live together in the capital of Germanicus and are very close (a very unloving, crazy family they make). In my mind, he obtained the Magister title after perfecting his wires or maybe creating the Autojägers which means he was very young (ten or twelve). He stayed mostly in the headquarters as an intelligence agent. His mission with Esther in Istvan was his first field mission and took a year before Abel Nightroad appeared to ruin it. He hanged out with Isaak the most (as it seems to be his companion during the Pale Bride incident in Radio Head). He developed a resentment after his mission with Isaak that decided to teach him a lesson when they were going to be allies against the Vienna faction: hacking his chip. Even if Isaak and Dietrich ended up being allies, they became more independent of each others after.

Isaak failed a bunch of missions (which Dietrich witnessed and learned from his mistakes) and started spending time with Adeptus Major Guderian. Dietrich himself was busy with the Iblis and the emissary of Cartage mission (and the ploy with the Duke of Tigris) with his own Adeptus Major, Radu. Another mission that failed due to 03, Seth Nightlord this time.

Isaak and Guderian (with Mein Herr overseeing) took next mission. Dietrich was pushed aside of the main group after his failure and loss of a subordinate. He had a chance to shine again years after by hacking the Ark and destroying the Vatican, indirectly causing the death of Seth/Augusta Vradica of the Empire, giving Mein Herr a chance to assimilate her nanomachines. Dietrich, this way, will cause directly and indirectly the progression of the war between Terrans and Methuselahs. He is either 24-25 years old and starts having doubts about how much his life… the Orden itself is worth for his god Cain. During this period, Caterina Sforza and Tres Iqus join the Orden, Dietrich doesn’t trust either and starts a psychological warfare with Caterina. She is victorious and turns Dietrich, who is distanced from Isaak (who isn’t mentioned in Canon just what the hell he was doing. Stop making him so goddamn mysterious, Sunao!) and paranoid of Cain, against his superior (most specifically Cain).

Dietrich in polychromatic comes after Reborn on Mars III. He IS breaking on his own (living with Esther and Radu is a proof of it) but not completely distanced from his superiors. His devotion to Cain is unshakable so far.

Personality: Wicked sociopath with a black heart who likes to hurt people (sadist ftw!). Dietrich doesn’t know what real is love, friendship, trust or loyalty canonically. He has this huge trauma and stunned emotional growth that led to many psychological complexes: emotional autism, constant paranoia, lack of empathy to name a few. The most evil of Trinity Blood characters as he’s referred canonically.

And yet… he honestly believes his work and the Orden will make a world a better place.

That sounds like an oxymoron. But it isn’t: he wants a better world, IMO, so he could be himself without fear to be hated or treated as a monster. He sees people as puppets because that is the only way (in his twisted mind) he will be safe and comfortable. If “real people” couldn’t do that in an imperfect world, then they will if they are marionettes.

He's a great actor. Hell, Dietrich entire life is about acting. He has many masks and behaves according to some role he believes is proper. He can act like a hot-headed heroic romantic hero who is tearful for his loved one, sweet as pie, he can be a slick and smooth manipulator, he can be a brat who whines about not getting his way, temperamental possessive villain, etc… He can be many things… and he acted that way according with the person and situation.

But deep inside, he’s this paranoid, evil, hateful boy who was too smart and pretty for his own good. He’s none of those things he pretends to be. He’s an apt liar to everyone and himself. He’s an ugly thing inside, a pitiful child who was crushed and was never given a chance to move on. Because of his town, his family then his "care takers." Dietrich was screwed up since he was born and he's not fighting against this fate.

If Cain is the machine learning to be human and Isaak (IMO) is the human learning to be a machine/less human. Dietrich is the Human who was inhuman and wants to, secretly, learn to be that (in despite of Isaak’s lessons against emotional attachments). He is drawn to people who represent the opposite he is, like Esther, because he’s curious and wants to understand this love concept.

At the same time, that (friendship, affection, love) will terrify him. Almost as much as the thought of being discarded again by his “family.”

The Puppetmaster appreciates those with strong beliefs on something, regardless if he disagrees with the point of view. Weak views, lack of grasp on their own ideals make the "puppets" boring and pathetic, easy to toss aside. If there's something Dietrich doesn't appear to tolerate is mediocrity; being driven by nature of how to surpass himself in an Orden where everyone has advantages over the weak, Terran child and how he achieved be a super villain, just after mighty Cain and mysterious Isaak.

There must be noted Dietrich is almost reckless, unafraid of everything; his motivation to do things other than his mission is amusement, if you bored him, you are screwed. This maybe because he lacks real affection to care for most things except two: his life and Cain (in the way he is important into his life).

"Igne Natura Renovatur Integra" if the world is renewed... maybe even he will given a better chance in life. Maybe in a better world, super bishounen geniuses wouldn't have nothing to fear from those stupid less pretty and smart relatives? ;)

Important Relationships:

Cain Knighlord: At the beginning, Dietrich idealizes Cain because he’s above himself. He’s a machine, so he’s more inhuman than an inhuman human. I think Dietrich thinks he can understand Cain and take him as role model more than he can with “people.” But as soon he feels he’s nothing for Cain (like with his parents), he seeks a way to undo him, as a reluctant ally of his enemies. Dietrich needs Cain because he needs an aim, an aspiration to believe he was worthy to be born in the world. He’s scared of him the most because he has real power over him: emotionally and physically.

Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer: Their relationship is very mysterious because Dietrich doesn’t treat Isaak like a puppet. Not as much as the others, anyway. Dietrich learns from Isaak not just inhuman lessons but also those of humanity, unwillingly by Isaak’s pseudo poetic and romantic nature (when I say romantic nature, I don't mean their relationship - which isn't). If there is someone who would be “family” for Dietrich, it’s the good old Magician. I think he admires and respects him more than he lets know, with his playful banter and childish complains he’s mimicking how Cain sometimes acts around him as if asking for attention too.

Melchior von Neumman: Melchior is a fellow puppeteer but of machines, not of human-based “dolls.” They have basic hatred of each others and a childish rivalry. Melchior is a “vampire” (or part) in Dietrich’s eyes from Vienna and he’s lower ranked. Dietrich is a Terran brat upstart from Germanicus for Melchior. Their nationalities, ages, ranks and species clash with their area of expertise. While magician (Isaak) and witch (Helga) contest with each others, so do the Puppet Masters. In a way, Dietrich is reaffirming his position as the best Puppeteer by outranking Melchior.

Radu Barvon: Dietrich wants to learn about those traits he doesn’t have, in a way, Radu is an experiment with this. As superior, Dietrich tries to replace (in a way) Ion in Radu’s life. It is manipulating ties with brotherhood and friendship, even allowing leeways for Radu after he failed and failed and failed… He doesn’t empathize with his feelings but Dietrich’s smart enough to recognize the possible same potential situation (Iffrits considered monsters) that he was (worthy to join the Orden). ~~Also they are hot together.~~ Maybe he wanted to prove how a lousy “Terran” could master the most powerful of Methuselah races.

Esther Blanchett: Like with Radu, Esther was an experiment with feelings of love he couldn’t have, comradeship and friendship. She’s his most special doll, his favorite puppet (Radu coming next), he “loves” her as much he can “love.” He made her addicted to him in a way, she can’t escape from the ties between them. He’ll want to drag her to the web of suffering over and over again to see her pain because that, in his opinion, that made her beautiful. This makes me pause, why he wants to hurt her so badly? What has Esther of special? She’s not really that pretty… But I think because she could be violent, set her city on fire and be part of an extreme terrorist group (like he does) and yet she remains someone good and loving, while he’s the opposite to her. He wants to see her destroyed inside, bleed inside like he did and see if she could be like him… IMO. Also he’s drawn to her because she loves and has friends, even after how empty she should feel, instead she’s able to overcome this by her strong will and go ahead with her life. ~~Also, see, OTP.~~

Tarot Card Assigned: The Devil. I agree it’s fitting for his role to many characters: Esther, Gyula, Radu… Also Dietrich’s figure is similar to Lucifer’s. Behind the blindly beauty of the Lightbringer, hides the dark heart of Satan. He’s the corruption and the baser instincts to overcome, in a way, Dietrich is manipulated by his own trauma, snared by his own threads. He's Lucifer-like in the idea of "fall from grace" too. Dietrich was born with godly beauty and intelligence with a noble rank and wealth, but instead of becoming something good to the world for this fortune, nurture and socialization made him become the evil icon of his canon.

Additional Symbolism: In official art: Devil wings/horns, his threads (invisible) are portrayed red (as blood or as the threads of fate), eating apples (the forbidden fruit symbolism), with venus flytraps as his signature flower (eating butterflies) and a snake as his animal.

Iron Maiden – Integral Faibrook Wingates Hellsing FST

For those who don’t know her, Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is one of the major characters in the Manga, tv series and soon to be OVA, Hellsing. She’s twenty two years old, descendant of Abraham van Helsing who runs an organization in the United Kingdom to protect the Protestant Church from supernatural threats, the Master of Dracula himself (called Alucard), the ace in her side of the fight. She’s also a knight of the Twelve Conventions, the youngest and only female member, a secret society that controls the former Empire in the shadows.

I tried to be diverse in themes and music for Integral’s different aspects in the Manga and Anime. The follow contains spoilers up to volume 8 of the Manga and all the tv series.

1- The Young Girl - Cinderella by Play.

I can slay, my own dragons // I can dream, my own dreams / My knight in shining armour is me // So I'm gonna set me free // Don't wanna be no no no one else // I'd rather rescue myself.

As a thirteen years old, Integral ventured into the basement in hopes to find a knight in shinning armor to save her from her evil uncle and his men who wanted her dead to take over her organisation. She found an old vampire instead and after beholding the slaughter, she became her own knight – killing Richard herself.

2- The Daughter - Forever Young by Rod Stewart.

And when you finally fly away // I’ll be hoping that I served you well // For all the wisdom of a lifetime // No one can ever tell // But whatever road you choose // I’m right behind you, win or lose // Forever young, forever young // Forever young ,forever young // Forever young, forever young // For, forever young, forever young.

This song applies for her relationship with Walter and her father in the Anime and Penwood and Walter in the Manga (her tie with her father had less emotional impact). Specially her one with Walter know he has been rejuvenated by Millennium, the forever young as a new spookier meaning. Arthur, Walter, Penwood have the same hopes of Integral would lead and fulfill her duty the best she can. No matter of her choices or failures.

3- The Grown Woman - Gotta Knock a Little Harder by Yoko Kanno.

Happiness is just a word to me // And it might have meant a thing or two // If I'd known the difference // Emptiness, a lonely parody // And my life, another smokin' gun // A sign of my indifference // Always keepin' safe inside // Where no one ever had a chance // To penetrate a break in // Let me tell you some have tried // But I would slam the door so tight // That they could never get in // Kept my cool under lock and key // And I never shed a tear // Another sign of my condition.

In the Manga and in the Anime we never see Integral having friends around her age (twenty-three), she relates to a personal level with Walter, her butler, and Alucard (and Seras as well in the Manga), but she gives the impression to be more focused in her job than her pleasure. Also, as an adult inside the comics, she doesn’t cry anymore, it’s like the tragedy she’s forced to behold and the burdens have forced her to repress those humans reactions. In the Anime, she only weeps when no one is looking or is unconscious.

4- The Nostalgic Side - After the Fall by October Project.

In a city of magic // That spins out of time // Where God has no image // And Man finds no grace // Something inside me was seeking itself // As I ran// From a shadow who'd stolen my face // The farther you run // The more you recall // The loss of your innocence // After the fall.

In both Anime and Manga, Integral looks back of how she used to be before she met Alucard, a complete innocent (probably Hellsing most innocent character, breaking point was the meeting). The flashbacks are displayed different but Alucard points out she’s still the same yet she doesn’t seem to agree, she lost something of her old identity with her innocence. One wonders if she feels good or bad about her choices and we will never know the answer because I doubt she herself is aware of her darker cravings.

5- The Hunter - Hunter by Dido.

For the crown you've placed upon my head feels too heavy now // And I don't know what to say to you but I'll smile anyhow // And all the time I'm thinking, thinking // I want to be a hunter again // I want to see the world alone again // to take a chance on life again.

Does Integral yearn for the battlefield? Alucard is her weapon (specially in the Manga), killing is her intent. Her blood boils for her targets destruction. I imagine she’s somehow buried with paperwork and bureaucratic transactions with the army, police and press but her skills in fencing and shooting are incredible, she has prepared herself for a hunt that never comes due to her duty as leader.

6- The Leader - Free by Corrinne May.

You saw the universe // Caught up in desperate dreams // You came and changed the ending // Changed it to save my fate // You led the revolution // You left your legacy // Embraced the struggle // in the face of mortality // I know I'm not alone in this // Help me believe.

Despite lacking close friendships, Integral touches people’s lives, even her enemies, her determination and decision impressed them and inspired them. Most of them were skeptical of her first, insolent but her personality won them over, General Penwood, Anderson, Seras Victoria, her own men, and Alucard himself in the Anime. They are all dependant in her actions. She’s a leader dead set in keeping her duty as a human among monsters in desperate crisis, setting an example to follow.

7- The Knight - Broken English by Schaft.

I could have got through anytime // Cold lonely puritan // What are you fighting for // It's not my security // It's just an old war // Not even a cold war.

Cheating, this is the song for the trailer of Hellsing Ultimate OVA but fits Integral like glove. She’s alone to a point and fighting her way towards the Mansion in her Rolls Royce and armed with a knightly sword. She’s no longer battling for the security of her people, she’s involved in a pointless war that was breeding since fifty years ago.

8- The Countess - End of all Hope by Nightwish.

This is the end of all hope // To lose the child, the faith // To end all the innocence // To be someone like me // This is the birth of all hope // To have what I once had // This life unforgiven // It will end with birth.

In volume 8, Integral releases Alucard’s restrictions completely and orders a gruesome massacre of all the invaders of London (a Forest of the Impaled). Humans and vampires fell to her commands, her wishes, she changed completely from her mission to slay mortals even if was for protecting her country and avenge the fallen citizens. She’s no longer Master or Knight, she’s the Count(ess), bringing despair and hope to the world. Time will tell which one applies.

9- The Failure - Fallen by Sarah McLachlan

Heaven bent to take my hand // And lead me through the fire // Be the long awaited answer // To a long and painful fight // Truth be told I've tried my best // But somewhere along the way // I got caught up in all there was to offer // And the cost was so much more than I could bear // Though I've tried, I've fallen... // I have sunk so low // I have messed up // Better I should know // So don't come round here // And tell me I told you so... // We all begin with good intent // Love was raw and young // We believed that we could change ourselves // The past could be undone // But we carry on our backs the burden // Time always reveals // The lonely light of morning // The wound that would not heal // It's the bitter taste of losing everything // That I have held so dear.

Depends of the outcome of the Manga, this may apply to Integral because London was destroyed despite fighting so hard to protect her city. Also, it relates to her feelings when she had to shoot her own men in volume two because they became ghouls. However, I chose this for Anime Integral in episodes twelve-thirteen (and seven too), where she discovered her organization name has been defamed and blamed for terrorists attacks, she lost her family honor and her trusted Commander. Despite she’s talented and ruthless, she’s inexperienced, idealistic and well intended, that proves her downfall.

10- The Scapegoat - Slaying the Dreamer by Nightwish.

Blame me, it's me // Coward, a good-for-nothing scapegoat // Dumb kid, living a dream // Romantic only on paper // Tell me why you took all that was mine! // Stay as you lay - don't lead me astray! // Wake up, mow the weed // You'd be nothing without me // Take my life if you have the heart to die.

Anime only. Incognito had a Human Master, despite the Judas being silenced in secret, Integral is still in prison, waiting for something and not touching her meal (is she about to be executed as a public scapegoat some wonder). What is she thinking? I picture her as a very dangerous wounded lioness ready to strike down everyone for the insult they made against Hellsing after a decade of her unshakable loyalty, swallowing her rage and frustration until she could lash it out. Even if she was told the incarceration was a measure for her ‘safety’ with the rape experiences and impotence she felt, the fact she’s locked up would increase her resentment and paranoia.

Alucard offered his blood – she smirked. Would she take this opportunity to avenge herself of whoever she thinks have offended her?

11- The Lonely Soul – The Isis Script by My Dying Bride.

I need a friend to lay upon // To be my sun // Oh, lord help me with my pain // I'm dead again // Beliefs have taken me to my end // Beliefs have taken me down again // The words I have followed, took me down again // The lies that I have read over again.

Applies mostly to the Anime, Integral betrayed not just enraged or blaming herself failures but wishing for someone to aid her – anyone. Her job was the end for her. In this context, Alucard appears, offering her company, immortality and freedom. In the Manga applies when she’s alone only with an instable Anderson as ally with Catholics and Nazis armies around her. She’s standing betrayed by Enrico and her Iscariot allies where her duty left her. Only for Seras and Alucard arrived.

Integral finally breaks her bubble and admits she’s a leader, she needs people to lead, without them she’s weaker. But she also seeks more than soldier, a friend maybe more.

Bonus: Pairings

Alucard x Integral # 1 - Kiss From a Rose by Seal.

There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea // You became the light on the dark side of me // Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill // But did you know // That when it snows // My eyes become large and // The light that you shine can be seen // Baby // I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey // Ooh // The more I get of you // Stranger it feels, yeah // And now that your rose is in bloom // A light hits the gloom on the grave // There is so much a man can tell you // So much he can say // You remain // My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby // To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.

In the Manga, Integral and Alucard have a relationship that is mostly based in the utter respect he has her as Master and she the recognition of his role as servant. However, lately, the relationship has been pictured more romantic. Both characters are dependant of each others in all aspects. So Alucard is her pain, her pleasure and power, but she’s the same things to him, their interaction, what they can accomplish together, is fascinating to read about. Light to darkness? Who is the light? Who sparked life to whom?

He’s her dark servant, her dead knight in shinning armor, she’s the Iron Maiden. Both grow powerful through their dynamics.

Alucard x Integral # 2 - Judith by A Perfect Circle.

You're such an inspiration for the ways // That I'll never ever choose to be // Oh so many ways for me to show you // How the savior has abandoned you // Fuck your God // Your Lord and your Christ // He did this // Took all you had and // Left you this way // Still you pray, you never stray // Never taste of the fruit // You never thought to question why // Oh so many many ways for me to show you // How your dogma has abandoned you.

In the Anime, Alucard tests Integral all the time, specially in her weakest moments, he tempts her with his vampirism offer when things gone wrong and she’s wounded, lost and lonely. Their interaction is more love/hate than the Manga (where is more into friendly affection/lust-love) but one of the most complex dynamics in the tv series. Perhaps he wants to baptize her with blood to cover the water from God, there was a curious dream sequence she had in episode nine about a blonde baby being done this. So far his obsession with turning her into a vampire reaches that Alucard changes a policewoman for possessing the color of her eyes.

He’s her tempter, ready to lure her out her beliefs when her determination falters and her world is broken into pieces for those she used to trust – even herself.

Maxwell x Integral - It’s A Sin by Pet Shop Boys.

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin // It's a sin // Everything I've ever done // Everything I ever do // Every place I've ever been // Everywhere I'm going to // It's a sin.

I am not too sure about this song but fits one of the most popular pairings for Integral (at least in the Western side of the globe). Both are bitter enemies, leaders of different organizations, people of God yet sinners by their work. Integral relates to vampires to fulfill her duty, Maxwell is a member of Section XIII – Iscariot, they gloat about being sinners. Their relationship would be a sin but they would never escape the vice anyway, it’s everywhere they go.

Anderson x Integral - Rev: 22:20 by Puscifer.

Pray – shall I go blind? // Pray – cos nobody ever survives // Praying to stay in your arms // Just until I can die a little longer // Saviors and saints // Devils and demons alike // She’ll eat you alive.

One of my favorite pairings inside the Manga. Anderson is the ace of Iscariot, he has morals and is not power hungry (unlike Enrico Maxwell), also he considers her his greatest adversary. Despite of this he never truly harmed her (aside threats), he helped her, saved her, went against the orders of his superior. He didn’t like the idea of having her treated like a prisoner like Maxwell wanted to. That respect could easily be twisted into repressed lust and infatuation. He is the Abraham figure and she’s the Mina one, he’s fated to admire her. Integral is a very domineering person and Anderson is a priest, as insane and powerful he is, I can picture him being meek and shy and her in charge so the lyrics fit.

Integral x Seras – Pills by Perishers.

I hope my smile can distract you // I hope my fists can fight for two // So it never has to show // And you’ll never know // I hope my love can blind you // I hope my arms can bind you // So you’ll never have to see // What we’ve grown to be // One may think we’re alright // But we need pills to sleep at night // We need lies to make it through the day // We’re not ok // One may think we’re doing fine // But if I had to lay it on the line // We’re losing ground with every passing day // We’re not ok.

Finally the most popular femme slash pairing for Integral - Seras Victoria. After the war, both changed, they still protect each other and comfort in their little ways offering protection and explanations but are they the same? Will that semblance of innocence shatter completely? How deep are the wounds? How much of themselves they lost in the chaos?
